RESOLUTION PROHIBITING THE HUNTING OR KILLING OF MOUNTAIN SHEEP

WHEREAS, Ordinance 44A (Revised) enacted by the Tribal Council on
February 14, 1969 authorizes the Tribal Council to close any part of
the Reservation to any or all activities described therein, and

WHEREAS, there is a small population of Mountain Sheep on the Flathead
Reservation, that if protected would increase in numbers sufficient
to warrant hunting, now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE TRIBAL COUNCIL OF THE CONFEDERATED SALISH AND
KOOTENAI TRIBES, that:

1.  The entire area within the exterior boundaries of the Flathead
    Reservation is closed to the hunting and killing of mountain sheep.

2.  Tribal and State game wardens have the authority to arrest anyone
    violating this ordinance and to bring them to the proper courts for
    punishment.

3.  This closure shall remain in effect until such time as the Tribal
    Council considers the mountain sheep population on the reservation
    adequate to support a harvest.

4.  Persons convicted of killing mountain sheep within the exterior
    boundaries of the Flathead Reservation will be guilty of a game
    violation and punished as directed in Section 21. Chapter 5 of
    Ordinance 36-A (Revised).

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Ordinance 47A enacted on August 28,
1969 covering this same subject is hereby rescinded.

                            CERTIFICATION

The foregoing resolution was adopted by the Tribal Council of the
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation,
Montana, on September 12, 1969, with a vote of 8 for, 0 opposed, and 0 not
voting, pursuant to authority vested in it by Article VI, Section 1
(ILLEGIBLE TEXT) of the Tribes' (ILLEGIBLE TEXT) and Bylaws adopted
September 25, (ILLEGIBLE TEXT) and approved by the Secretary of Interior
October 28, 1935 and as (ILLEGIBLE TEXT) the Tribes December 10, 1948 and
approved by the Secretary of (ILLEGIBLE TEXT) by the Tribes April
(ILLEGIBLE TEXT) Secretary of Interior on May 6, 1960.
